The M6 between Leyland and Standish looks set to remain shut throughout Friday evening.

A crash involving a lorry, campervan and car has left seven people injured.

Lancashire Police and Highways England have shut the M6 motorway in both directions between Junction 27 and 28 around 2.45pm.

Traffic England is listing a reopening time as not being until very late on Friday evening and potentially into Saturday (31 August) morning.

The lorry involved has crashed and hit the central reservation – meaning both sides of the motorway are shut. The lorry, which was carrying cans of beer and cider, has shed its loads across the carriageway.

A police spokesperson said no one involved in the crash is understood to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Diversion routes are in place but severe congestion has been experienced by M6 motorists through Friday afternoon with delays back to Junction 26 (Skelmersdale) on the M6 northbound and Junction 32 on the M6 southbound.
