Major M6 delays as police shut motorway for ‘concern for welfare’

Motorists heading to the north of Preston are experiencing long delays.

Lancashire Police have shut the M6 in both directions between Junction 33 (Garstang) and Junction 34 (Lancaster).

All traffic is stopped from Forton Services northbound and the southbound carriageway is empty.

Police say they are dealing with a ‘concern for welfare’. The incident took place around 2.30pm on Saturday (31 August).

Delays of more than 30 minutes are reported and large queues are back to Junction 32 (Broughton) on the M6 northbound with congestion then all the way back to Junction 30.
