CRIS Collinsworth and Mike Tirico returned to the booth Sunday night to call the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders game.

Collinsworth began to share some high praise for Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye but Tirico wasn’t having any of it.

Early in the second quarter, Maye dropped back to pass and in the process lost his shoe.

The rookie quarterback managed to still complete his pass to running back JaMycal Hasty for a first down.

Tirico immediately noticed that Maye lost his shoe on the play saying, “Still trying to figure out if that was his shoe that came flying out, and it was his shoe.”

Collinsworth then weighed in with his thoughts on the play.

“How good is this guy?” asked Collinsworth.

“This guy’s a living legend already.”

The comment had Tirico cracking up and he responded by saying, “Stop it.”

A replay was shown after the first down and Collinsworth continued to praise Maye.

“What the heck, man he’s on a roll right now nobody wake him up,” Collinsworth said.

In the Patriots 20-10 loss, Maye completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 passing yards and a touchdown.

For the preseason, Maye connected on 21 of 34 passes for 192 yards and one score.

The quarterback was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the franchise reportedly turned down big offers to trade back.

Drake signed a four-year fully guaranteed contract worth $36.64 million on May 28, 2024.

Maye is competing with veteran Jacoby Brissett, 31, and sixth-round pick Joe Milton, 24, for the starting job.
