Nigeria’s celebrated music icon Onyeka Onwenu also known as the ‘Elegant Stallion’ has been laid to rest in Lagos.
The artist died on July 30 2024 at Reddington hospital Ikeja after collapsing at an event honoring the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr Stella Okoli.
The funeral service of the 72 year old was held at the Fountain Of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos and was followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi.
Family and friends shared eulogies and tribute to the life Madam Onyeka lived. An emotional video featuring Joke Silva, Betty Ogundu, Nkechi Ali Balogun, and Tee Mac sharing their memories and final messages for the late Onyeka Onwenu was shared at the service.
It also featured an exclusive interview of Onyeka Onwenu discussing with Chude. Her sons, church members, and friends shared their different stories of the late icon with some tear-jerking moments and plenty laughter shared.
One of the notable persons spotted at the event was former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Following the ceremony, guests and family members proceeded to Ebony Vaults Ikoyi where she was laid to rest.
The gifted musician is survived by her two sons and a legacy filled with different achievements as an actress, broadcaster, politician and activist.
