Leicester City will be starting the 2024-2025 Premier League season without forward Patson Daka, who is facing several months on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old Zambian striker underwent surgery following an injury sustained in Leicester’s final pre-season match against Lens. Leicester’s new manager, Steve Cooper, confirmed that Daka’s absence is expected to be prolonged.

In addition to Daka, Leicester will also be missing experienced duo Jamie Vardy and Conor Coady for their opening league game against Tottenham.

Vardy has been dealing with an injury since the second week of pre-season, while Coady is expected to be out for a few more weeks due to a hamstring issue.

Coach Cooper said: “Patson is not great.

“He’s had an operation and will be out for a few months. Vards has been injured since the second week of pre-season; he’s closer to returning, but it will be a little while.

“Conor Coady will be out for a few more weeks with his hamstring.

“Vards is at the latter stages of rehab. With his experience, he understands his body and will have a big say in that process of returning.”

Note that Leicester’s start to the season is overshadowed by the looming threat of a potential points deduction for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules from their last top-flight stint.

Despite these challenges, manager Steve Cooper expressed his confidence in the club’s ability to navigate through these difficulties. He emphasized that while there are no immediate plans to sign new players, the club continues to work on reinforcing the squad.

Leicester City’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur will take place at King Power Stadium by 8 p.m. (WAT) on Monday, August 19.
