Police identify rough-sleeping woman found dead in Whittle-le-Woods

A woman who was found dead in Whittle-le-Woods this week has been identified, police have confirmed.

The body of the woman, who has not been named by police, was found on Friday (23 August) morning on Dawson Lane at 11.44am.

Police believed the woman was sleeping rough as they discovered a tent nearby.

After issuing an appeal over the weekend, police have now successfully identified her with help from the public. Police say there is no evidence of third-party involvement in the death.

Det Insp Paul Price said: “I would like to thank the community for sharing our appeal to help with this very sad case.

“Whilst it is good news that we have now identified this woman, my thoughts are very much with her family and loved ones at this time.”
