A recent catastrophic flood has severely impacted multiple communities within the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, resulting in significant losses.
Naija News understands that the disaster has resulted in the loss of six lives, the displacement of over 2,000 individuals, and the destruction of numerous homes, agricultural lands, and infrastructure such as bridges.
The communities most affected include Kichinga, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s birthplace, Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam.
The Executive Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, Hon. Simon Musa, confirmed the occurrence of the disaster in a statement made available to the press during the weekend, noting that some of the impacted areas had never before faced such a calamity.
He mentioned that thousands of displaced individuals are currently seeking shelter in ten temporary camps that have been established.
Musa attributed the flooding to intense rainfall on the Mandara mountain, which led to erosion and damage to the Shuwa Bridge, as well as the destruction of homes, food supplies, and farmland.
He urged the federal and state governments and humanitarian organizations to provide immediate assistance to the affected areas.
The Village Head of Shuwa, Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi, characterized the event as “unfortunate and tragic” and called upon the government to take action and support distressed communities.
