A giant transformer was lifted onto land at Preston Docks during Saturday lunchtime.

Being sailed up the River Ribble on Wednesday the team has patiently waited for weather conditions to be favourable before moving it onto dry land.

The multi-tonne piece of kit is needed by National Grid at the Howick Cross power station at Penwortham.

The River Trader brought the transformer up the river and has been docked at the city’s Marina since but is expected to depart during Saturday afternoon.

Lee Worthington captured footage of the transformer being winched from the barge to the Docks – which you can watch above or on our YouTube channel.

The next step for the transformer is a journey by road from the Docks to Penwortham which will involve rolling road closures during Sunday (25 August) morning until it reaches Howick Cross Lane around lunchtime on Sunday.
