Ukraine’s parliament has appointed Andrii Sybiha as the country’s new foreign affairs minister.
Sybiha takes over from Dmytro Kuleba, who had led the foreign ministry since 2020 but was ousted Wednesday as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy began the biggest reshuffle of government roles since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
Sybiha was earlier the deputy chief of staff for Zelenskyy, before being promoted to first deputy minister for foreign affairs in April. Sources close to the president’s office told POLITICO that Sybiha is “a strong, classic diplomat, very experienced and has been working with [international] partners since the beginning of the invasion” against Ukraine in February 2022.
