A 75-year-old man has been charged after allegedly bringing a box cutter knife onto an international flight leaving from Sydney earlier this year.
Airline staff were preparing for the plane to depart for Los Angeles when they made the discovery on July 23.
Australian Federal Police were called to the plane and the box cutter was seized.
AFP officers interviewed airline staff, passengers and a US air marshal, who were all onboard the flight.
Police searched the plane and the passengers went through security screening.
A 75-year-old man, from the Central Coast, was interviewed by AFP officers and was later issued a court attendance notice to face a charge of possession of a prohibited item on board an aircraft.
The maximum penalty for this offence is two years’ imprisonment.
He will appear before court today.
