Fire fighters are still battling to put out a blaze that ripped through a pallet factory in Wetherill Park in Sydney’s west.
The intense fire has destroyed the factory on Redfern Street and caused significant damage to neighbouring businesses.
Residents are being told to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors shut as smoke continues to billow from the factory.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said it was called to about 9.15pm on Saturday night and arrived to find 400 wooden pallets alight.
It took three aerial fire trucks, 40 fire trucks and 150 firefighters three hours to fight the blaze.
The fire has since been contained and eight trucks and 35 firefighters remain on the scene.
They’ll be there all day
NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and NSW EPA along with gas and electricity authorities and traffic management are helping.
Police say the inferno may have been deliberately lit.
It’s believed the area will become a crime scene once the blaze is fully contained.
