Tagovailoa was down on the field after being hit in the helmet by Hamlin in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ 31-10 loss at Hard Rock Stadium.

The former first-round pick made it back to the locker room after being treated on the field for several minutes.

Tagovailoa has a history of head injuries going back to 2022 and was ruled out with a concussion – the third of his NFL career.

NFL insider Jay Glazer appeared on Sunday’s edition of Fox NFL Sunday and reported that the Miami Pro Bowl signal-caller will meet with independent neurologists this week to determine his playing future.

Glazer then said that only Tagovailoa would decide whether to continue playing in the NFL or not, and Strahan agreed with his opinion.

“This is a Tua decision,” the New York Giants icon said.

“I can’t sit here, like I’ve seen other people do, and say he should retire.

“[That’s] not my decision to make.”

Strahan continued, saying that he knows players who retired early due to concussions who “regretted the fact that their career didn’t end the way they expected it to end.”

Still, the Super Bowl champion believes that Tua needs help from the people around him which will help him make his decision on his NFL career.

“At the end of the day, you need your family, your teammates [and] your friends. That’s the support he’s going to need. Whatever decision he makes, this is Tua’s decision,” Strahan said.

“We just hope he makes the best one for himself.”

It was reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Tagovailoa has no plans to retire after dealing with his latest concussion.

Rapoport added that he will continue to see concussion specialists until he and his doctors believe he’s ready to return to the field.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that he has “zero idea” on when Tua will suit up for a game and won’t put pressure on the 26-year-old.

Miami backup Skylar Thompson finished the Week 2 game after Tagovailoa’s exit.

The team is expected to elevate veteran Tim Boyle on the practice squad as there is no timeline on Tua.

The Dolphins star Tagovailoa’s Week 2 head injury comes after starting all 17 games in 2023.

But he missed five games, including a playoff contest, due to concussions.

During this past offseason, Tua signed a four-year, $212.4 contract extension.

For five seasons, he has posted 13,122 passing yards, 83 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions in 55 appearances.

The 1-1 Miami squad will take on the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday.
