DONALD Trump accused Kamala Harris of being a Marxist as he brought her economics professor father’s teachings into last night’s presidential debate.

The former president said he would send Harris a Maga hat as her policies had supposedly evolved further to his, but claimed her personal politics mirrored her fathers.

The vice president made little mention of her Stanford professor father Donald Harris during last night’s fiery debate between the presidential nominees in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Trump’s attack centered on how Harris had supposedly shifted her political stance during her run in the presidential race.

“Everything that she believed three years ago and four years ago is out the window,” Trump said during the debate.

“She’s going to my philosophy now.

“In fact, I was going to send her a MAGA hat.”

Harris responded to his words with a laugh.

The former president continued his personal attack on Harris and brought her father into the mix to back his claim that the vice president was actually a “Marxist.”

“She’s a Marxist. Everybody knows she’s a Marxist,” Trump said.

“Her father is a Marxist professor in economics, and he taught her well.”

The former president has been known to call the vice president “Comrade Kamala” in the past.

Trump has previously accused Harris of copying his policies.

The former president had shared a scathing attack on his opponent in a Truth Social post from August 10.

Trump accused Harris of copying one of his tax policy proposals.

HARRY COLE: Both landed blows – but race is still too close to call

By HARRY COLE, Political Editor

AFTER a slow start from both candidates, it was only once Harris began prodding and poking at the size of Trump’s rallies, that he went on the attack. Jibes about issues that hit close to home, such as his wealth, his inheritance from his father, and his businesses that the old Don of 2016 came out of his shell.

Trumpy was clearly angry. He got more orange. He got more aggressive. He hit out over taxes, illegal migrants, and eating cats and dogs.

This debate was about two camps talking mainly to their bases. As elections are largely decided on who can get their supporters out to vote, this decision to address mostly those who have already made their minds up made sense.

Harris had some particularly strong moments on abortion and healthcare – issues she already has a lead on over Trump. But she was much weaker on the economy – an area her opponent will look to bash her on.

For someone who’s been in power for four years as Vice President to not be able to defend the record is a major weakness for Harris.

She dodged questions on inflation and cost of living before Trump really went on the attack.

He tried to link everything back to immigration and fracking – two of the biggest issues for the former President.

In key swing states that Trump needs to win, such as Pennsylvania, fracking is a big issue, and Kamala Harris’ record on that is dubious at best.

She’s saying the right things now but there wasn’t a real knockout blow on either side, the bar was lower for Harris.

Biden’s VP needed to prove that she could handle the debate with no notes, no scripts, and no soundbite moments – without a prompt or soft-soap interviewer to help her.

Throughout the campaign, Harris has been kept on a very tight leash, restricting her media appearances as much as possible.

Frankly, she cleared that low bar.

On the money markets, Trump started out ahead of Harris on the Betfair exchange, but by the end, his Democratic challenger had a slight edge.

November’s election is still on a knife edge but Harris is gaining on Trump in the betting markets.

Trump had a very strong closing statement, hitting all his key points on immigration, Biden, the economy, and national security. But this thrilling race is still too close to call.

“How long will it be before Kamala Harris comes out with another “TRUMP” policy like, “No Taxes will be paid by our Senior Citizens on Social Security?”” he wrote in a post.

“She’s looking really bad now! Everyone is waiting to see what idea, or policy of mine, she will copy next.”

PARENTAL TIES

Donald Harris, an economics professor at Stanford University, was controversial in the 1970s for supposedly leading people away from the free market model that was popular at the time.

A student newspaper at the university had described him as a “Marxist scholar” in that period.

Sceptics at the time claimed the professor was a “Pied Piper” who was supposedly guiding students to more left-wing economic theories.

Harris’ father, 86, was born in Jamaica and moved to America in the 1960s to complete his doctorate at the University of California-Berkeley.

He later held teaching positions at other institutions like the University of Illinois, Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin.

The professor ended up at Stanford University in 1972 and later became the first black scholar to be granted tenure in the institution’s economics department.

Her father has opted to stay away from his daughter’s political life and has rejected multiple interview requests in recent years.
