Nasboi. An interesting personality. In an alternate universe, he would be a myth. A legend. A man whose tales are sung by moonlight and whose life is recounted countlessly by generations.

Nasiru, a young thespian who fell in love with Madame Music. Life would be life, and Nasiru would end up not properly equipped to introduce himself to the family of Madame Music, the fans. He was rejected by them. He was too poor. Too dirty. Not rich enough. Not the type of man the family wants to trust with their daughter’s fate.

What would our dear Nasiru do? He befriends Comedy, Madame Music’s distant cousin, introduces himself to the family as her business partner and makes a lot of money with Comedy and the family, making a name for himself while at it too. Nasiru enjoys life gotten from associating with comedy and all the benefits it comes with.

Then he remembers his first love, Madame Music. Did he remember her? Did he ever forget about her? The ancestors do not tell us, but what we do know is that he tries to introduce himself to the family again as a newfound, different, clean, loaded young man with talent, passion and ambition.

The family says “but we recognize you, you’re Comedy’s work husband. We helped you make money then”.

He shows them his Umbrella, an expensive and successful one he got with Wande Coal. They say “yeah, that’s great, we do like it, but we know you. You’re Comedy’s work husband”.

He shows them Small Money. They’re receptive, they collect from him. They say again “We know you Nasiru, you’re Comedy’s work husband. What are you doing?”

The elders rarely make mention of the fact that he offered the fans Short Skirts too, perhaps to censor the story for children, but Nasiru did. This time the family wasn’t so receptive. Like any businessman, Nasiru decided to go all in. The best move, INIT?

He decided to approach the marriage with full force. He called Joeboy. He called Pheelz. He called Wande Coal. He called Chike. He called Falz. He called 2baba. Everyone he trusts that has married into the music family, Nasiru called.

The elders tell the children to go to bed here, and that they’d continue the story tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day we find out what happened after the entourage tries to help Nasboi secure a marriage with Madame Music and her family of fans.

The day we find out if the marriage was finally successful, and Nasiru is now accepted by the family as one of them.

It would be unfair to mention that the elders always highlighted how Nasiru’s persistence as well as his decent approach and skill level contributed to a slow but steady entrance into the hearts of the family. They feel like they know him as Comedy’s work husband, but he doesn’t seem so bad for Music after all.

He provides in the house; He tries to deliver enough lamba. He makes her happy; He’s always looking for the sweetest melodies. He keeps her in an up-tempo mood constantly; she’s not sounding depressed or sad. Maybe, just maybe he might be for Music.

He’s using the business he built with Comedy to sponsor his marriage with Music. He’s considered a genius in the alternate universe. He made sure he went for what he wanted no matter how long it took him. Nasiru’s story went on and on for ages, with the children eagerly waiting for what would happen at the marriage ceremony.

You know, this isn’t what I wanted to write about Nasboi when I picked up my pen. I wanted to be angry with 2baba. The only next-gen artist he’s done a collaboration with to the best of my knowledge is BNXN and Blaqbonez.

I felt like (and you’d allow me to use the term ) more serious artists needed that collab. Forerunners of the genre right now would benefit more from a 2Baba collab than Nasiru would. It would do more for the history of the genre if we had a Rema X 2Baba X Lojay collaboration.

I wanted to tell Nasboi to be more audacious with his approach to music, though he’s clearly trying to build a sound identity. I wanted to say he wasn’t ready for an EP. I wanted to ask him why he was giving us 6 guest artists on a project with 8 songs when we should have been presented with more of his individuality. Then I started to write. And I actually realized, I really do love Nasboi’s story. I’m sold now.

A young man became popular for impersonating Davido, made a career out of it, actually proved himself to be funny, got to the top of that industry, then branched into music and scored a hit song on his first record, has another in his bag and already has one of the most anticipated EPs this year, while dominating in terms of content and promotion, that’s a good story.

In an alternate universe that would be a myth, a legend. A man whose tales are sung by moonlight and whose life is recounted countlessly by generations.

Nasiru, a young thespian who fell in love with Madame Music. And I would be the elder telling the story, telling the children, and yes I mean you reading, the events that happened at the wedding, yes his EP release, whenever he puts it out. I will complete the story in this universe.

I’m rooting for you also, Lawal Micheal Nasiru Bolaji. I am. I have always stopped myself whenever my body wants to dance to your songs. I didn’t believe in what you stood for. I do now. Really, who am I to put a cap on any man’s dreams? I hope your marriage works, Nasiru, see you at the reception.
