Preston Railway Station was put into lockdown on Saturday night as a police officer was attacked.

A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene in the unprovoked assault, which Blog Preston understands involved the British Transport Police officer being attacked with a knife.

A member of rail staff was also attacked and injured during the incident.

Injuries to the police officer or rail staff are understood to be life threatening. Blog Preston understands the office was stabbed in the neck.

Preston Police said on Saturday evening the attack was treated as an isolated incident.

Superintendent Dave Rams said: “I would like to reassure the public that a man in his 50s has been arrested and we are currently not looking for anyone else in connection.

“Our investigation is continuing at pace and the public will notice an increased policing presence at the station as a result. I urge anyone with information who is yet to get in touch to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 quoting reference 729 of 8 September.”

The attack took place as hundreds of people streamed into the station seeking rail travel in the wake of BBC Radio 2 In The Park in Moor Park.
