Nigerian Street Hop sensation Seyi Vibez has announced his departure from Dapper Music, the label that played a pivotal role in his rise to stardom.
The move marks a shift in Vibez’s career as he embraces independence and goes solo.
Since making waves in the mainstream music scene in 2022, Seyi Vibez has become one of Nigeria’s most prominent artists.
His departure from Dapper Music, which he subtly signalled by deleting all his Instagram posts related to the label and changing his bio to “Independent,” signifies a new chapter in his career.
This development follows a recent hiccup in Vibez’s tour schedule; the artist had to cancel his Canadian tour due to “circumstances beyond their control,” as reported by the organizers.
This cancellation has further fueled rumors about potential tensions between Vibez and Dapper Music, especially given the label’s instrumental role in his rise to fame with his breakout hit single, ‘Chance,’ and his subsequent success.
Since his breakout, Seyi Vibez has enjoyed remarkable achievements, including winning the 2023 Headies Award for Best Street Hop and ending the year as one of Nigeria’s most streamed artists.
His impressive track record also includes releasing an astonishing six solo projects since November 2022, with his latest EP, ‘Loseyi Professor,’ dropping earlier this year.
Dapper Music, under the leadership of CEO Damilola Akinwunmi, has also flourished, contributing significantly to the success of Nigerian street music.
Akinwunmi’s efforts were recognized with the TurnTable Chart’s Executive of the Year award for 2023, underscoring the label’s influential role in the industry.
Adding a new twist to his journey, early this year, Seyi Vibez launched his record label, Vibez INC, which has already introduced a new wave of artists to the scene such as TML Vibez, Muyeez.
