A century-old Chorley pub could soon be converted into housing.
Plans have been submitted to Chorley Borough Council which would see the former Duke of York pub converted to include 20 bedrooms for supported living. The pub, on Bolton Street, dates back to the 17th century, though the current building was erected in 1924.
It has been closed since January 2023 and Watford-based developer Top Mark Properties wants to convert the building into housing. If approved, a 14-bed HMO will be created across the basement and ground floor, with six apartments on the first floor.
The plans would then see the properties managed by social housing provider Ready4Home, with staff available on site 24 hours a day and a concierge service covering out of hours. A dedicated staff flat is also included in the proposal along with the employment of two full time housing officers.
The application states: “[Ready4Homes] is based in Preston and Salford, and their goal is to keep expanding in order to meet the needs of vulnerable men and women in their local communities. The organisation also works closely with the NHS by providing a warm and safe environment for those lost in the medical system and facing delayed discharge across Salford, Manchester, Oldham, Preston, Chorley, St Helens, Wigan, South Ribble and Tameside.
“The site at Bolton Road offers Ready4Home the ideal location to deliver a supported housing scheme, and allows them the opportunity to support some of the more vulnerable members of the local community with a safe, supportive home environment, with on site support, in a suitable and sustainable location.”
