AS October approaches, Social Security recipients can expect their next payment soon.

However, the exact date you receive your payment depends on several factors, including your birthdate and how long you’ve been receiving benefits.

When you receive your Social Security check depends primarily on your birthday.

Here’s a breakdown of the payment schedule for October:

  • October 9: For those born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
  • October 16: For those born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
  • October 23: For those born between the 21st and 31st of any month.

HOW THE DATE IS DETERMINED

Typically, Social Security payments are issued starting on the second Wednesday of the month.

Which Wednesday you receive your payment depends on your birthdate, with later birthdays getting paid on the third or fourth Wednesday.

However, there’s an exception: If you’ve been receiving benefits since before May 1997, your payments are issued on the 3rd of each month regardless of your birthdate.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU DIDN’T GET A CHECK

If your Social Security check doesn’t arrive on the expected date, the Social Security Administration advises waiting an additional three mailing days before contacting them.

After that, you can call the national toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213.

The SSA recommends calling in the morning or later in the week to avoid long wait times.

If you’re having difficulty reaching someone through the national hotline, you can use the SSA’s office locator to find and contact your local office.

CHECK CONCERNS

With over 70 million Americans relying on Social Security, worries about the program’s future are growing.

According to the Social Security Administration’s annual trustees report, the trust fund reserves are projected to be depleted by 2035.

REMAINING SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEDULE 2024

Here is the remaining Social Security schedule for 2024:

  • October
    • October 9, 2024
    • October 16, 2024
    • October 23, 2024
  • November
    • November 13, 2024
    • November 20, 2024
    • November 27, 2024
  • December
    • December 11, 2024
    • December 18, 2024
    • December 24, 2024

While Social Security will continue beyond that point, beneficiaries could see their payments reduced to 83% of the full amount without additional funding.

Shannon Benton, executive director of the Senior Citizen’s League, stressed the need for clear solutions from presidential candidates to safeguard the program.

“Americans should be concerned about their nest egg,” Benton said to The U.S. Sun.

With the trust fund expected to run out in 2035, Benton emphasized that merely offering promises, such as eliminating Social Security taxes or vowing not to cut benefits, won’t be sufficient to ensure the program’s long-term stability.

“The long-term viability of Social Security is a pressing issue, and voters need to hear clear plans from presidential candidates on how they’ll address this looming shortfall.”
