Two people are dead after an SUV veered off a road and into a creek near the NSW-Queensland border overnight.
Emergency services were called to Carwal Creek Bridge, south of the Mungindi township, after an SUV crashed down an embankment and landed in the creek becoming submerged about 1.15am.
Friends found the SUV down an embankment after they circled back, realising it had stopped following them.

The group and a local property owner helped rescue a 23-year-old woman from the car.
She was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The bodies of a man and a woman in their 20s were pulled from the vehicle about midday.
Police divers and crash investigators were among those who rushed to the scene.
Morialta Road remains closed in both directions.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
