Week 6 of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 9 show flew by quickly but not without some major happenings and events. It was packed and filled with excitement, tears and wins.

Here is a recap of everything that happened last week.

Sunday; The Radicals bid farewell to BBNaija

The housemates, who were still reeling from the eviction of the Radicals; Fairme and Michky, were thrust into a shocking twist – their unpairing. In a ceremony not devoid of drama and suspense, each pair was dissolved and 8 pairs became 16 standalone housemates.

With the pairs dissolved, the game has completely changed and the previous grand prize which would have been shared between the winning pair now belongs to only one winner.

When they got back from the unpairing ceremony, they were greeted by the presence of a new housemate –  the infamous parrot that listens to and records conversations and gossip which later gets revealed to shake things up.

Big Brother also gave the housemates a unique opportunity to reintroduce themselves to the public after their unpairing. They took to the diary room to campaign and make their case to stay in the game one by one, each with their strategy to win over the audience.

Monday; Onyeka becomes the first solo Head of House

Monday saw housemates debating their next moves after the unpairing that had happened the previous day.

Shaun spent much of his time mingling with Ocee, Ozee, and other housemates and didn’t hesitate to question their lack of accountability, especially regarding a narrative making rounds, also not being thrilled with Handi’s interaction with Ocee. He later regrouped with Handi and Wanni, strategising and advising Handi on her gameplay. Other previous pairs also analyzed their game plans.

Big Brother also issued stern warnings against rule-breaking, whispering, microphone infringement, speaking in codes, blocking doors, and damaging Big Brother’s property which he revealed were now grounds for strikes.

Later that evening, the first solo Head of House challenge was played by all the housemates in which they faced off in a series of obstacle courses, each vying for the coveted HoH title.

Onyeka outpaced her competitors, becoming the first solo HoH of the season. As the new Head of House, she selected her sister, Chizoba, as her guest to enjoy the perks of the HoH condo.

Tuesday: Wager preparation begins

Head of House, Onyeka, wasted no time stepping into her leadership role, as she gathered the housemates in the main lounge and briefed them about the week’s wager brief which required them to create a unique story featuring a superhero and a villain, set in an entirely new world.

The day wasn’t devoid of its issues though.  Secretly married couple, Kassia and Kellyrae argued at the dining table and the former was met with some sharp words from her husband.

During the diary session that took place later that evening, most of the housemates admitted to Biggie that they weren’t expecting the unpairing twist and expressed that they were caught off guard and felt unprepared for the sudden shift. Victoria, on the other hand, said she already suspected that the unpairing was coming and wasn’t entirely surprised when it happened.

Sooj’s diary session was spent discussing his grievances about Shaun and his recent actions(the conversation on Nelly’s ‘hips’ that was exposed by Ebuka on Sunday) and expressed how his friend had let him down. Nelly also chimed in during her session, expressing her displeasure with Shaun’s conversation involving Wanni and Handi.

Wednesday; a clash of ships

Shaun and Wanni had a major showdown; the clash was about communication breakdowns and unresolved feelings and it got so intense that Shaun suggested taking the discussion outside to the garden.

Wanni called out Shaun’s tone and his tendency to talk down to her, while Shaun felt his sternness was being misread as hostility. Handi also jumped into the dispute later with her twin sister, noting that Shaun’s behaviour has been increasingly problematic and admitted to feeling uneasy about confronting him. Wanni contemplated stepping away from the situation which had triggered Handi and reminded her of a past toxic relationship and led her to encourage her twin to distance herself from the disrespect.

Anita had a rough start to her day as she broke down in tears and her former partner, Nelly, quickly stepped in to comfort and offer words of encouragement.

Ozee and Victoria had a brief but telling conversation where Ozee expressed relief that they were no longer at odds. A surprised Victoria clarified that they were never fighting, just focused on the wager task. Ozee, however, felt a distance between them, noting that Victoria hadn’t been as eager to see him as before. He reassured her that he would always be there for her, and despite the recent tension, nothing had changed.

The diary sessions that took place in the evening saw Anita shed tears again over her struggle to adapt to the solo game. Shaun and Wanni also turned on the waterworks during their diary sessions, each expressing their exhaustion over the issues plaguing their relationship.

During his turn, Ben was tasked with a secret mission by Biggie to sneak the housemates’ eggs into the diary room without being caught.

Thursday; Onyeka’s birthday party

It was a special day for Onyeka as she celebrated her birthday with the housemates praying for and serenading her with sweet words. However, it wasn’t all rosy. As the new Head of House, she was eager to lead the house to a much-needed victory and was determined to prevent a repeat of last week’s wager loss but despite her best efforts, she struggled to get the housemates to fully commit to the wager preparation.

Ben and Chizoba had a talk about her fight with her sister and she admitted to lashing out at him because she had been feeling down and didn’t have anywhere in the house to escape and cool off. Ben wasn’t having it and told Chizoba that even when she’s angry, she needs to set it aside and learn to compromise.

Afterwards, the housemates all thronged to their weekly pool party but this time, the housemates came with the vibes and energy. Kassia and Kellyrae had a public kiss which further added more fuel to the rumors about their relationship. As usual, Shaun and Wanni, after their makeup, were seen practically glued to each other, stealing kisses every chance they got.

When they got back in, to honor Onyeka’s birthday, Biggie dropped off some alcohol, and the housemates gathered around the dining table, toasting to her.

Friday; another wager victory

Kassia and her husband, KellyRae kicked off the day with a sweet gesture as they kissed each other sweetly. However, drama ensued shortly after with Ozee furious over housemates hoarding meat pies from parties while others went without. Ben was outed as a notorious food hoarder, accused of hiding food and revealing them days later.

Later that evening, they had their wager presentation, the play which revolved around a classic battle of good versus evil, with Onyeka portraying the all-powerful God Mother, Ocee as the menacing villain and Ozee stepping into the shoes of the brave superhero. They eventually won the wager.

Nelly and Sooj were on no talking terms throughout the day as she pointed out how he had been acting distant, even going as far as taking care of his own food and sheets while completely ignoring her. Before the wager presentation, he had made an attempt to reconcile, but she wasn’t ready to let him back in. The silent treatment continued, with neither of them breaking the ice, even when they found themselves alone in the locker area.

Saturday; Reconciliations and ‘Gbedu

The day started on a bright note with Wanni making amends with and apologizing to Onyeka for how she had treated her when she shared her thoughts on her relationship while also admitting that her reactions were often a result of her own personal trauma.

Onyeka explained that she had been trying to look out for Wanni, feeling that she might have been moving too quickly with Shaun and “doing too much.”

Shaun and Topher also had a chat about the upcoming evictions. Shaun expressed his hope to stay in the house, while Topher acknowledged that everyone was feeling the pressure this time around.

Before the Saturday night party got into full swing, Ozee and Victoria had a much-needed talk to mend their strained relationship. Ozee had been giving Victoria the cold shoulder after she flipped him the middle finger a while back. While Victoria saw it as a joke, Ozee didn’t find it funny at all. She finally apologized, and the two reconciled just in time to enjoy the party together.

The weekly Saturday Night party took place as the No Loose Guard housemates served up looks, aura and buzz with their gyration.

Sunday; No Evictions

The morning saw Handi and Shaun finally squash their differences as they spoke about their dynamic. Shaun opened up about the unique challenges of dating a twin, admitting that the dynamic felt different and that he sometimes felt his side wasn’t fully considered. Handi, in turn, acknowledged that Shaun rarely admits when he’s wrong and confessed that when someone close to her does something wrong, she tends to withdraw. She ended their chat with an apology for shutting him out.

The Sunday Live Eviction Show kicked off with a mix of drama, tension and relief with Ebuka. The housemates didn’t escape the heat as he dug into the tensions and unresolved issues among them such as Chizoba and HoH Onyeka’s sibling drama, the friendship dynamics between former Aces, Sooj and Topher, probing Wanni about her relationship with Shaun and questioning Ocee’s role in the Chizoba-Onyeka sisterly drama.

At the end of the table shaking, no one was evicted and the housemates were relieved to get one more week in the house.

With 16 housemates and just 3 weeks left until the finale week, we sure expect to see some major play and evictions happen in the coming weeks.
