Police are hunting a group of arsonists after almost a dozen cars were destroyed in a suspicious blaze at a car yard in Melbourne’s south-east overnight.

Police believe arsonists rammed a ute into a roller door of a factory on Price Street in Oakleigh South about 3.30am and set it alight.

The blaze quickly spread to several other vehicles outside the business.

The owner of the property was alerted to the blaze through CCTV footage installed at the site and called emergency services.

The arson attack destroyed 10 cars in the front yard but firefighters were able to save another 40 inside, including a Lamborghini and Maserati which were on display in the show room.

A group of 32 firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from spreading into the factory, which was minimally damaged.

9News understands the office area of the property, which is used by a prayer group, was also impacted.

The arsonists were last seen fleeing in a getaway car.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstance of the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
