Three weeks of roadworks have begun at a busy Preston junction.

Temporary traffic lights are in place at the crossroads of North Road, Melling Street and Sedgwick Street.

Lancashire County Council is upgrading the traffic signals at the crossroads.

The work started on Thursday (31 October) and is running until Sunday 24 November.

A spokesperson for the county council said: “Our signals team will be upgrading the existing signals. These works are to provide traffic signal infrastructure, primarily new traffic signal ducting, to facilitate the installation of new detection and a change to the signals mode of operation (MOVA).

“Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works, which have been designed to cause minimal disruption. We advise that motorists allow themselves extra time for their journeys and we are sorry for any inconvenience.”
