A former Everton kit manager is aiming to raise £100,000 for Preston-based charity, Heartbeat by walking from Preston North End to Goodison Park this weekend.

Jimmy Martin is planning to walk 32 miles this weekend for the charity which played a vital role in his recovery after a heart attack.

Jimmy, who spent over three decades at the club, will set off on Friday 4 October and aims to arrive during halftime at the Everton V Newcastle match on Saturday 5 October.

He will set off from Heartbeat’s headquarters, located at Preston North End.

Jimmy said: “They’ve done so much for me since my heart attack, and I want to help them the way they’ve helped me.

“They’re struggling financially, and I hope by raising £100,000, we can secure their future so they can continue supporting others like me.”

Heartbeat, which has been offering services for over 45 years, is said to be in urgent need of funding to continue its work across the northwest.

Jimmy added: “Without Heartbeat, I don’t know where I’d be today.

“The staff and the programme have helped me get my life back on track and I want to make sure they can keep doing that for others.”

Dr Sally Seed, his cardiac rehabilitation instructor and fundraiser said: “To see him take on this 32-mile walk is incredible, but it’s a true reflection of his strength and character.

“He’s putting his heart and soul into this walk, not just for himself, but for everyone who relies on Heartbeat’s services.”
