Aides to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, have taken a jab at the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu following his recent remarks regarding President Bola Tinubu.
Kalu had stated that Tinubu frequently drives around Abuja at night to better understand the struggles faced by residents, describing the President as a “street person” who is aware of Nigeria’s struggling economy.
In response, Abubakar’s aides ridiculed Kalu’s comments, questioning the sincerity and effectiveness of Tinubu’s late-night excursions.
Speaking on Thursday, the former Abia governor said, “The President himself knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person; he knows the street very well.
“The President some nights uses his car to go around and know what is happening in Abuja here.
“The President goes around with one or two cars and sees what is happening. He is not a President that is locked up in the room.”
Reacting, Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe mocked Kalu in an X post, saying: “Yes, I saw Tinubu in Jabi garage last night. He came down from an armoured Keke NAPEP to buy kose and kunu. #TPain #ISightedTinubu #TalesByMoonlight.”
On his part, Atiku’s Special Assistant, Phrank Shaibu, posted: “Guess even the big shots need their local street snack fix! #TinubuInTheStreets #KekeRoyalty”
