Labour Party has issued a public disclaimer regarding Ms. Oluchi Oparah, a former National Treasurer, who the party says is falsely presenting herself as the National Women Leader.

In an official statement released via X on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, the party clarified that Oparah was indefinitely suspended in November 2023 for “anti-party activities,” and emphasised that she was never elected or appointed to the role of National Women Leader.

“It has come to the attention of the leadership of the Labour Party of the illegal activities of a former National Treasurer of the party, Ms. Oluchi Oparah, who is reported to have been parading herself as the National Women Leader of the party,” the statement read.

The Labour Party went on to describe Oparah’s actions as impersonation, accusing her of misrepresenting the office in attempts to secure financial gains.

“A person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, especially for fraudulent gain, is an impostor,” the statement noted.

According to the Labour Party, Oparah has been reportedly attending various forums and events under the guise of being the National Women Leader, allegedly with the intent to solicit financial support.

“This development has immensely embarrassed the Labour Party,” the statement emphasized, calling her actions “dubious.”

The party reiterated that the rightful National Women Leader is Mrs. Dudu Manuga, who holds the sole authority to oversee Labour Party women’s activities in Nigeria and abroad.

The party warned organisations, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council, The Kukah Foundation, and government and security agencies, to be wary of Oparah’s alleged impersonation attempts.

The Party also urged any individual or organization approached by Oparah to contact the police immediately.
