If you’re in the Greater Montreal area, make sure to check your route before heading out this weekend. Two major road closures are scheduled from October 18 to 20, and the province’s transportation ministry says drivers should prepare for significant disruptions.
The affected Montreal roads are frequently busy, so take note of the following obstructions to avoid dreaded Montreal traffic and find suitable detours to keep your weekend plans intact.
Here are the two closures to keep an eye on from Friday, October 18 at 11:59 p.m. until Monday, October 21 at 5 a.m., based on the latest updates from the Mobilité Montréal website at the time of publication.
Route 136 / Ville-Marie Tunnel

There will be a complete closure of Route 136 eastbound, affecting traffic between the Turcot interchange and the entrances to rue Notre-Dame and rue de la Cathédrale, in the Ville-Marie tunnel.
Drivers should prepare for the following detours at the Turcot interchange:
- A-20 East and A-15 South (Décarie): Via the ramp for A-15 south, exit 60 for A-10 west (Bonaventure) and boulevard Robert-Bourassa;
- A-15 north: Via the ramp for A-20 west, U-turn at exit 65 (boulevard Angrignon) and A-20 east / A-15 south;
- Boulevard des Tanneries (formerly Pullman): Eastbound via rue Saint Jacques and rue de la Cathédrale and westbound via rue Notre Dame Ouest and A-20 east.
Default closures: The three ramps leading from the A-15 north, A-20 east and A-15 south (Décarie) to the R-136 east (downtown), as well as the entrance to boulevard des Tanneries.
Samuel-de-Champlain Bridge / A-10 / R-132 Interchange

There will be a simultaneous closure of R-132/boulevard Marie-Victorin eastbound, affecting traffic between exit 53 (A-10, A-15, Montreal, Sherbrooke) and the entrance to A-10.
Detour via the A-10 east ramp, U-turn at A-30 interchange (exit 11), A-10 west and exit 6/R-132.
Exclusive access will remain available on the boulevard Marie-Victorin ramp leading to the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge. “However, heavy traffic congestion is expected in the area throughout the weekend,” warns the Mobilité Montréal website.
As of Friday at 10 p.m., there will be default closures of the ramp leading from the R-132 west to the A-10 west/Samuel-De Champlain Bridge towards Montreal, and at the end of the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge, at exit 6 (R-132), the junction leading from the A-10 east to the R-132 east (towards Longueuil).
