Pilot dead after light plane crashes into paddock west of Melbourne

A man has died after a light plane crashed at an airfield in western Victoria this morning.

The Cessna 150 light plane had just taken off from Bacchus Marsh airport when it crashed in a nearby paddock about 11.20am, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The ATSB has sent investigators from its Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney offices to conduct a transport safety investigation.
