The hills are alive with the colours of fall in this mountain village — and it’s less than 90 minutes away from Montreal by car.

A short road trip or day trip leads you to Sutton, Quebec, an Eastern Townships destination where you can soak up the beauty of the season in the most majestic storybook settings — from an alpaca farm with a 4-kilometre walking trail to a sprawling vineyard where Adele filmed a music video.

That’s right — pop phenomenon Adele shot the music video for “Easy On Me” on the grounds of Sutton’s Château Ste-Agnès.

Established in 1846 and nestled amongst 173 acres of land with breathtaking views of the Appalachian mountains, the Neo-Renaissance-style estate is currently home to a chapel and 7,000-vine vineyard with 18 different terrasses.

“From wine tastings, picnics with loved ones to enchanting guided tours, Château Ste-Agnès offers a wide range of unique experiences,” the website reads. Entry plus a tasting costs $22.50 per adult.

If you’re more into wine than wildlife, the alpaca farm we mentioned also boasts stunning autumn scenery and unique visitor experiences.

Between 30 and 50 alpacas reside at Alpagas Sutton, and you can visit these fluffy friends. While you can’t walk with the alpacas, and they don’t particular like being pet, you can approach the fence where they are likely to greet you and eat out of your hands.

“The self-guided tour is a great way to discover the farm and our beautiful animals,” Alpagas Sutton says on its website. “The walking circuit takes anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes (depending on your pace) during which you will be able to observe them graze in their pastures, feed those who come closer to the fences and learn everything there is to know about these magnificent animals.”

There are also multiple observation points — one of which is free — where you can watch the alpacas in action while enjoying the spectacular backdrop.

Or, you can shop for the softest alpaca-wool products at the boutique, ranging from socks to scarves to blankets, to keep you cozy all season long.

In addition to these attractions, the picturesque town of Sutton is known for Parc d’environnement naturel de Sutton, which offers one of the most stunning four-season trail networks in the entire province, and stunning views of the foliage during the fall months.

Comparably magestic is Sutton’s ‘Au Diable Vert’ eco-tourism resort where you can see Highland Cows, access a private network of trails, sleep in impressively luxurious treehouses, and ride flying bikes through the forest

According to Bonjour Quebec’s 2024 Fall Colours Map, the leaves in Sutton are currently at their mid-point so it’s not too late to plan a trip before they peak and experience this autumn paradise.
