The University of Central Lancashire is offering free public health checks next month.

The event is taking place on Thursday 7 November as part of the national Ask Your Pharmacist campaign.

Final year pharmacy students will be available on the Preston Campus to check the height, weight, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels of members of the public.

The undergraduates will also offer general health advice.

Run by the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, the annual event allows students to interact with patients and gain essential hands-on experience.

Ann Urmston, Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy, said: “We’re delighted to once again be running a day of free health checks for members of our local community.

“This event is not only great for our students, who are all supervised by qualified staff, as they can put their pharmacy skills into practise with real patients, but it’s also an opportunity for people to get a free health MOT as we enter into winter.

“This is quickly becoming an annual event and every year we’re finding more ways of providing advice or signposting patients to where they can get professional help.”

The free public health checks will run from 9am to 5pm on Thursday 7 November in the Foster Social Space.
