Major delays on the rail network to and from Preston have continued as the impact of Storm Bert continues to be felt.

Avanti West Coast and Transpennine Express suspended all services north of Preston during Saturday due to the wet weather and strong winds.

But passengers trying to travel during Sunday (24 November) have been left trying to cram onto limited services.

Avanti has major delays and cancellations listed still on all Glasgow services via Preston. There are minor delays on services to Edinburgh.

Safety inspections were needed, according to Transpennine Express, of the tracks to the north of Carlisle and into Scotland which caused significant delays.

All lines have reopened but one Blog Preston reader said Preston Railway Station was ‘chaotic’ during Sunday evening with many passengers having to terminate journeys and taxi drivers queuing back into Fishergate to try and pick up fares.

Many passengers trying to travel during Sunday experienced delays of more than two hours to their journeys.
