A number of lorry drivers are due to be fined for ignoring closure signs on the M6 while emergency services tried to work at a fatal crash scene.

Lancashire Police said the drivers of heavy goods vehicles were captured on camera using a lane which had been closed.

The motorway was shut in both directions between Junction 33 and Junction 32 during a ten-vehicle crash on Wednesday 6 November morning.

A lorry went through the central reservation and the driver, a man in his 50s, died.

Two other drivers were seriously injured in the crash which closed the motorway completely for 17-hours and the southbound section was closed for more than 24-hours.

Lancashire Police said: “Following the collision on the M6 yesterday and the subsequent closures between Junction 33 and 32 we understand drivers had to sit in significant delays, thank you for your patient.

“We will be prosecuting the HGV drivers captured on camera using lane three to jump the queues.”

Barrier repairs are continuing on the M6 close to Junction 33 for Garstang with a lane closed in both directions past the scene.

Lancashire Police continue to appeal for information or witnesses to the crash.
