Man arrested after 15-year-old found dead in Sydney bushland

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after the body of a 15-year-old boy was found in bushlands in Sydney's south-west.

Police were called to bushlands off Wilton Park Road in Wilton, south of Campbelltown, just before 7.30am today after receiving a call from a member of public who was concerned for the boy's welfare.

Police found the boy's body and established a crime scene.

After issuing an appeal for information this afternoon, a 32-year-old man presented himself to Narellan Police Station shortly after 4pm.

He is in police custody as the investigation continues.

No charges have yet been laid.

The road has been closed as State Crime Command Detectives and the homicide squad investigate the circumstances around his death.

The boy's family have been notified, but he has not yet been formally identified.

He is believed to be a local to the Picton area.

"We believe something has happened on the Friday evening, but the exact time in relation to what has actually happened is still under investigation," NSW Police Acting Superintendent Tim Calman said.

"There may have been a group that was camping in the area, and we believe that persons associated with that camping event may be involved.

The body of a teenage boy was found in bushlands off Wilton Park Road in Wilton, south of Campbelltown, just before 7.30am today.

Calman offered his condolences to the teenage boy's family and friends.

"It's a tragic event for this young person to be involved in," he said.

"We put our thoughts and feelings out to the family, who are involved as they go through this tough time, The family and the wider circle of friends will be doing it tough this afternoon as they go through this process.

No missing person reports had been made, and the boy was not known to police.

Anyone in the area since 6pm yesterday, who may have dash-cam footage or information about what happened, is urged to contact Camden Police or Crime Stoppers.
