A memorial stone to a man described as the ‘heart and soul of Grimsargh’ has been dug into place.
Blog Preston reported last year how fundraising efforts were underway to honour the life of village legend Andy Small.
Andy was a keen supporter of Grimsargh wetlands, as well as many other causes in the village, and he died in June 2023.

He was also the caretaker at Alston Lane Catholic Primary School as well as taking on the role of Santa in the run up to Christmas at events in Grimsargh.
Andy’s family worked with Grimsargh Wetlands Trust – where Andy was a trustee for many years – to establish the best way to remember him.
This has now taken the form of a huge piece of blue Lakeland slate which will greet people as they enter Grimsargh wetlands.
The memorial plaque on the stone is dedicate to Andy and describes him as ‘the heart and soul of Grimsargh’ and the ‘eternal guardian of the wetlands’.
