A troubled Preston pub has a new landlord who has vowed to put the pub ‘back on the map’ as one of the city’s best spots.

The Stanley Arms, on Lancaster Road, has been closed since late September and has found itself in trouble with licensing on a number of occasions over the last few years.

Now managing director of Blind Tiger Inns Chris Tulloch, who is taking on the Star Pubs venue with a view to reopen later in November, wants the pub to return to being a credit to the city.

Tulloch said: “The Stanley Arms has always been a well-known pub but has lost its way in recent times. Our aim is to put it back on the map as a fantastic place where people can safely enjoy sports, socialising and a great time in beautiful surroundings.

“Preston is continuing to go from strength to strength with all the recent regeneration and further developments, such as the Animate cinema and leisure complex, under way. We want The Stanley Arms to be part of the improvements and to add to all the city has to offer.”

Blind Tiger Inns also have The Station Pub on Butler Street in Preston, along with The Broadfield Arms in Leyland, The Talbot in Euxton, The Wishing Well at Lostock Hall and The Townley Arms at Longridge.

A £150,000 refurbishment is set to begin next week to take the pub into a venue that specialises in sports and focuses on drinks rather than trying to serve food too.

David Pritchard, Star Pubs’ regional operations director: “We’re delighted to be investing in giving The Stanley Arms the new direction it needs to thrive. Blind Tiger Inns has earned a reputation for creating outstanding pubs that are highly popular across Lancashire and the wider North West. Their plans will give The Stanley Arms the wow factor it deserves.”
