THE NFL is set to play eight games abroad from next season.
But commissioner Roger Goodell wants to press ahead and double that number.

The NFL returned to Munich, Germany this year having last played in the city in 2022[/caption]
Owners approved up to eight regular-season games to be held outside of the United States from 2025.
That is up from the five that took place this year.
Goodell wants the league to become global and capitalize on interest with flag football coming to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
And he wants to add more games to the schedule, which would result in more revenue.
London hosted three of the five international games in 2024 – two at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and one at Wembley Stadium.
Munich, Germany also staged a fixture having last done so in 2022.
And the NFL went to South America for the first time with a Week 1 clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers.
All those games were played in time slots and on networks that don’t have regular coverage.
The Eagles-Packers game was a Friday night clash and streamed only on Peacock.
While all four games in Europe kicked off at 9.30 am ET and were shown on NFL Network.
The NFL could sell the television rights for international games separately and earn even more in revenue.
Madrid, Spain has already been confirmed for a game in 2025.
Commissioner Goodell also confirmed that Dublin, Ireland would get one soon.
And a return to Brazil as well as Mexico City is also on the cards.
He hopes to expand the schedule from 17 regular-season games per team to 18.
And then a full round of 16 games would be played oversees – potentially almost one game every week.
Goodell also didn’t dismiss the idea of the Super Bowl eventually being staged outside of the US.
He spoke at a fan forum at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October.
“We’ve always traditionally tried to play a Super Bowl in an NFL city – that was always sort of a reward for the cities that have NFL franchises,” he said.
“But things change. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if that happens one day.”
