All the help available in Preston to keep warm and safe this winter

Help is available in Preston this winter as many are due to face seasonal challenges, from rising costs to social isolation.

Preston City Council is collaborating with community organisations to highlight services designed to keep people safe, warm and healthy during the colder months.

Councillor Nweeda Khan, Cabinet Member for Communities and Social Justice at Preston City Council, said: “Winter can be particularly tough and so we’re proud to partner with many community and charitable organisations across Preston that can support people through challenging times

“Together, we can ensure our community remains resilient, connected, and cared for this winter.”

The city council has compiled a list of support available across the city from warm spaces to go, accessing food and financial support.

Household support fund

The next round of the fund has been announced, aimed at helping residents with rising energy costs and other essential expenses. Details on what it covers and who it can help.

Warm spaces 

In partnership with Lancashire County Council, warm, safe and welcoming spaces have been established across Preston. They offer warmth, advice and an opportunity to connect with others. See a list of warm spaces across Preston and South Ribble.

Wellbeing during winter

The council is reminding people that Winter can heighten feelings of isolation and loneliness, so residents are encouraged to check in on friends and loved ones, as even a single conversation can make a difference.

In line with guidance from the UK Health Security Agency, residents eligible for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are urged to get vaccinated as part of the “Get Winter Strong” campaign.

Food support 

For those struggling to put food on the table there are organisations across the city providing support.
