A flood alert has been issued for around Preston after heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon.
Preston has been under a yellow weather warning for rain, issued by the Met Office, since 3pm today (31 December) and will remain so until 11am tomorrow (1 January).
The rain has been persistent and heavy in the area and the warning stated that there was a chance to flooding in some locations as a result.

The flood alert has been issued for the River Ribble and River Darwen as of around 3.15pm today by the government’s flood warning service.
It states the areas most at risk include River Ribble from Samlesbury and the River Darwen from Darwen including Blackburn, Preston, Walton-Le-Dale, Pleasington and Higher Walton.
A spokesperson said: “We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.”
