If users simply search for “squid game” in their browser, a floating “invitation” box will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Simply tap this to launch the game – complete with an eerie soundtrack.

It is a version of the “red light, green light” challenge that first featured in season one of the show – and returned to screens for the second.

In the show, contestants are forced to run towards a huge doll named Young-hee towards a finish line while her back is turned.

But, in a sinister twist on “What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?”, if the motion-sensor robot turns round to see anyone moving, they are immediately shot.

Luckily, Google’s version is a watered-down version, where contestants simply evaporate when eliminated.

It starts with six contestants lined up behind the creepy doll, who is accompanied by two of the show’s signature Masked Men.

Players can then manoeuvre the contestants using stop and start buttons.

When Young-hee turns around, hit the red “x” as quickly as you can to freeze the contestants in place – and don’t press start again until she turns back around.

If you manage to get any of the contestants over the finish line without being eliminated, you’ll be rewarded with a confetti display on the screen.

Although the spooky music contributes to the atmosphere, it can be a little distracting – so you can switch it off at any point using the sound button in the bottom left-hand corner.

Squid Game follows cash-strapped players who accepted a strange invitation to compete in children’s games.

A 45.6 billion won prize (£28million) awaits for the winner, with a death sentence for the several hundred losers.

Season two was broadly met with disappointment from viewers who thought it had gone “soft”.

Google’s Easter egg is not the first game to have been created in honour of the show, with a reality game show called Squid Game: The Challenge launched in 2023 – without the bloodshed.

Mai Whelan, 56, was the surprise winner and took home $4.56 million (£3.57m).
