If you’re looking for a sky-high salary to match your lofty ambitions, a job at NAV Canada could be just the ticket! NAV Canada is currently hiring in Quebec for high-paying roles, and you could earn six figures without a degree or related experience.
If you didn’t already know, NAV Canada is responsible for keeping Canada’s skies safe. Its employees help pilots by providing a wide range of information, from weather observations and updates to runway advisories. They’re also responsible for controlling the movement of vehicles on airport runways.
Currently, NAV Canada is recruiting Flight Service Specialists—Airport Advisory Services (AAS) in Quebec. The minimum pay range for this type of role is over $46,000, while the maximum is a whopping $118,953, so there’s good money to be made if you’re the right fit!
The good news is that specific experience or specialized training is not required to apply. Instead, NAV Canada will pay you to learn the ropes, with the training salary starting at $46,862 from day one.
The initial training period will take place in Montreal and will last around six months. It will primarily involve classroom learning and simulation exercises. From there, you’ll start on-the-job training, which will take an additional five to six months.
Eligible applicants who need to relocate to Montreal for this training will also receive a bi-weekly relocation allowance to cover their costs during the learning period.
Once you’ve successfully completed the training stage and are officially qualified as a Flight Service Specialist, your salary will increase to a minimum of $75,483. It’s a pretty hefty bump up after just a year of training!
The salary for this role can climb to $118,953 at its maximum, which means there’s plenty of financial growth available for the best candidates. However, salaries that big don’t come without a little sacrifice, naturally. In some cases, you will be required to relocate or travel to remote locations across Quebec.
There are currently permanent openings in the following locations:
- Iles-de-la-Madeleine
- Mont-Joli
- Rouyn
- Sept-Îles
- Val d’Or
There’s more good news, though. A relocation incentive is offered for anybody who moves to these regions to take on the job. It’s paid out in addition to your salary each year, starting at $3,000 in the first year and then increasing to $5,000 in year two and $7,000 in year three.
If a fly-in and fly-out routine sounds more like a fit for you, there are also openings in Kuujjuaq and La Grande. In such cases, you’ll spend a set amount working on-site and then back home—for example, 14 days on-site and 14 days off at home. NAV CANADA covers the cost of travel for the fly-in and fly-out locations.
It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that locations are not assigned until after the initial training course is successfully completed.
Although you don’t need any specific experience or a degree-level education to apply, there are a few qualities you must have to be considered a good fit.
NAV Canada is looking for individuals who are highly motivated, have excellent teamwork skills, can multitask and problem-solve, and have a great memory.
You’ll also need to be at least 18 years old, have a secondary school diploma (or equivalent), be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and be bilingual in French and English.
You must also be prepared to complete cognitive testing for the required competencies, including language testing and testing at an assessment centre. The process also includes a medical and drug test and a security check.
Finally, you must be prepared to relocate to any of the locations listed above after the initial training period.
