Alongside him is Christine Cort who is one of the driving forces behind the Chews Yard development in the city.
The foodie, drink and craft market and venue has established itself as a go-to place in the city in recent months.
She receives an OBE primarily for her work as the managing director of the Manchester International Festival and the honour is given for services to the arts and to culture.
Christine told Blog Preston: “I am absolutely humbled and astounded to receive notification that I am going to get an OBE
“I can’t believe it and wouldn’t be possible or conceivable without the hundreds, maybe thousands, of people I have worked with along the way who have supported me, worked with me and made impossible things happen both here, in Manchester and all over the world.”

Preston-based businessman and philanthropist Mark Mills also receives an OBE.
Described as an ‘expert who helps serious business owners sell their companies for more than they think possible in 12 months’ he’s honoured for services to business and charity.
Mills grew and built the firm Cardpoint PLC which went from a start-up in 2000 to revenues of £100m annually in 2006. Since then he works with businesses on their deals and says he has handled £770million of business deals of all sizes.
He was also made the deputy lieutenant of Lancashire in 2022.
Mark told Blog Preston: “I am humbled, honoured and flattered (and of course surprised) in equal measure to be nominated and whilst it is often said, in my case, my honour is dedicated to entrepreneurs, business owners and employers who try to make a difference every day by serving customers, employing people and contributing on so many levels to society.
“This recognition affords me the opportunity to help more UK and Channel Islands’ businesses and business owners to succeed, contribute more to society, generate more employment and income for their economies as well as do more for the less fortunate members of our society.
“I would also like to thank my whole family and specifically my wife, Angela, who has stood by me throughout my career and who has always been my biggest supporter.”
And hailing from New Longton the former UK Youth Commissioner Oliver Wood also receives an honour.
He is given the award for his services to young people and he held the role of UK Youth Commissioner for four years between 2018 and 2022 for The Scouts.
The former Hutton Grammar School pupil is still heavily involved in scouting as he is chair of Waddecar Scout Activity Centre.
He also has his own housing and design business.
Oliver said: “I am so proud to accept a British Empire Medal for services to young people, following my time as UK Youth Commissioner for The Scouts.
“As a volunteer, you never expect any recognition and this has come as a huge surprise.
“I am inspired every day by the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who support the delivery of Scouting to over 440,000 young people across the UK.
“I’m so grateful to them; and it is the volunteers who gave their time each week that meant I enjoyed my time in Scouts as a young person, and inspired me to start volunteering myself when I turned 18.
“I love volunteering with The Scouts; it is so rewarding, and has played a significant role in shaping who I am and my own development, as well as giving me lifelong friends and memories.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to volunteer both locally and nationally for the organisation that has given me so much.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Each and every day, ordinary people go out and do extraordinary things for their communities.
“They represent the very best of the UK and that core value of service which I put at the centre of everything this government does.
“The New Year Honours List celebrates more of these unsung heroes, and I thank them for their incredible contribution.”
