Quebec shoppers, get ready to double-check your grocery hauls again! A new round of food recalls has hit, including an expansion of the ongoing cucumber recall in Canada.
These product recalls, shared by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), highlight issues ranging from harmful bacteria like salmonella to undeclared allergens and unwanted foreign objects like insects and plastic pieces.
If this feels a bit like déjà vu, you’re not imagining it — last month’s cucumber recall has been expanded with a few additional brands and varieties flagged due to potential salmonella contamination.
Between produce, snacks and even spices, these recalls are affecting household brands like President’s Choice and Taylor Farms, and the CFIA is urging Canadians to toss or return these products if they’ve made it into their pantry or fridge.
Here’s a closer look at seven of the latest recalls in Quebec and the reasons and risks behind the advisories.
Oasis Treasures Pistachio Dubai Chocolate
Recalled product: Oasis Treasures Pistachio Dubai Chocolate, 340 g
Recall reason: Palm Bites Canada is recalling certain Oasis Treasures-brand Pistachio Dubai Chocolate due to potential salmonella contamination. These chocolate bars were sold in various provinces as well as online, and the CFIA is warning that the product shouldn’t be eaten or shared. “Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” the federal agency says. While there have been no illnesses reported as of now, “Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.”
