A stolen Jeep was recovered entering Preston – after a police officer deployed a stinger for the first time in his career.

The vehicle had been recently stolen from Bolton, police said, but was spotted by officers close to Preston.

A stinger was deployed by police ‘to prevent any pursuit’ with the incident first being reported at around 5.18am this morning (31 December).

Two were arrested as a result and the Jeep was returned to its owner.

A spokesperson for police said: “Jeep had been reported as recently stolen from Bolton, it was sighted entering Preston by eagle-eyed officers and successfully stung by another officer (his 1st deployment of stinger) to prevent any pursuit.

“Two arrested for burglary and Jeep recovered to the grateful owner.”
