Where is hot in February: long-haul destinations

There are many incredible hot countries to visit in February, especially if you are prepared to fly for a few hours. Here are my top picks - from tropical escapes to culture-packed city breaks.

1. Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Where is the nicest weather in February? February is an ideal time to visit Dubai for warm weather and plenty of outdoor activities, rest and relaxation. My top picks for things to do include poolside relaxation, holistic spa retreats, fun in the many water parks and world-class shopping.

It's also well-worth booking a night or two out in the desert. Camp beneath the stars and enjoy epic excursions like dune bashing, sand surfing and sunrise hot air balloon rides. If you're in the market for a luxurious winter break, you won't find many places better than Dubai.

2. Sydney, Australia

The iconic Bondi Beach, with its rolling waves, is beautifully complemented by a crystal-clear swimming pool nestled along the shore.

  • Average February temperature: 22°C

Australia is well known for its hot climate and in February, Australia enjoys a hot summer. Sydney is an ideal destination for a very relaxing, very warm break in the Southern Hemisphere. You can expect daily highs of around 26°C, with nights cooling to a comfortable 18°C.

Don't skip soaking up some sun on the city's beaches such as the iconic Bondi Beach. Sydney Harbour is also well worth a wander, while animal lovers will adore spotting koalas and kangaroos in local wildlife parks.

As summer is Sydney's peak tourist season, flights can be expensive with KAYAK data showing an average flight price of £972. But if you're looking for somewhere with some incredible weather to escape winter, you're pretty much guaranteed fun in the sun in Sydney.

3. Honolulu, USA

  • Average February temperature: 23°C

Hawaii is a tropical paradise teeming with life and beautiful warm weather. If you're wondering where is hot in February, Honolulu is the place for you, with daily temperatures reaching into the high 20s.

Hawaii's capital sits on the island of Oahu and has plenty to do on a February holiday. Relax on beautiful white sandy beaches like Waikiki Beach or Sandy Beach. Take a boat out for the day and snorkel alongside turtles. Or spot dolphins on a sightseeing cruise.

There are so many incredible activities to look forward to in Hawaii, the main one being basking under a hot sun and forgetting its winter back home! February is also a prime time for hitting Oahu's hiking trails, my favourites are the lush Watershed Forest Reserve and the breathtaking Diamond Head Crater Trailhead.

4. Da Nang, Vietnam

  • Average February temperature: 22°C

Make 2025 the year you finally visit Vietnam. February is a great time to visit as it's one of the country's driest months - especially in places like Da Nang in central Vietnam. The daily air temperatures are hot in February, too. And by hot, I mean pleasantly in the mid to low 20s (plus the occasional heatwave).

Dry, sunny weather means you can expect to spend long days on Da Nang's sweeping golden sand beach. Relax on a sun chair at one of several beach clubs or hit the water with a surf lesson. The city is also the starting point for incredible day trips. Venture less than an hour south to charming Hoi An, famed for its silk lanterns. Or arrange a private tour to Ba Na Hills - a theme park in the Trường Sơn Mountains that's home to the iconic Golden Bridge.

5. Phuket, Thailand

  • Average February temperature: 27°C

Last, but certainly not least, on my list of long-haul destinations to visit in February is Thailand. You can visit Phuket year-round and it is a well-established safe haven for those wanting winter sun with daily temperatures reaching 33°C.

Phuket has some of the best beaches in Thailand and is a popular month for full-moon parties. You might notice the demand for flights is higher as a result, but don't let that put you off.

Foodies will rejoice as Thailand is a culinary paradise. In fact, it's worth visiting for the food alone. Along with the island's incredible natural beauty and balmy weather, a February trip to Phuket is a no-brainer.

6. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

A tropical beach with boats gently moored nearby, swaying palm trees adorning the shore, and soft white sand inviting relaxation.
  • Average February temperature: 25°C

A Caribbean island getaway is never a bad idea - but it's especially appreciated in the depths of winter. The Dominican Republic is one of the best countries to visit in February, with beach resorts galore and high temperatures often climbing into the high 20s.

Punta Cana sits on the island's idyllically named Coconut Coast and it truly is a paradise. You'll likely spend most of your time relaxing on white-sand beaches. There's over 30 kilometres of stunning coastline to explore, too. This includes popular Playa Bavaro with its all-inclusive resorts and great water sports. You could also check out Macao Beach for some amazing surfing. Or secluded Juanillo Beach is perfect for a peaceful, desert island experience.

February sits outside the Caribbean's hurricane season, so you won't have to worry about any adverse weather or seaweed collecting on the beaches. What's more, it's one of the driest months of the year.

Where is hot in February: short-haul

Fly just an or two more beyond Europe and you'll find temperatures are really starting to warm up. Here's one of my top hot countries in February to visit

7. Marrakech, Morocco

  • Average February temperature: 13°C

Bustling souks, beautiful mosques and balmy temperatures that sometimes soar above 19°C? Marrakech has so much appeal for those planning a warm February holiday.

You'll want to spend a good chunk of your time in the city's historic medina. Having cooler climes will make this much more pleasant - especially if you're keen to barter for bargains in the city's busy markets. Other brilliant activity options include taking a tour of the gloriously ornate Bahia Palace or enjoying a moment of calm in the small but lush Le Jardin Secret.

Evenings can still be a little cool in February, so make sure you pack some light layers. You probably won't need an umbrella, though. The city typically gets just 30mm of rainfall throughout the month.

Where is hot in February in Europe

Wondering where it's hot in February without travelling far? Europe offers a handful of amazing destinations with lovely temperatures.

8. Malaga, Spain

  • Average February temperature: 13°C

Spain is a great bet for some February heat - especially if you venture to Malaga on the country's southern coastline. The typical winter weather in this Andalusian gem consists of mild temperatures, very little rain, and, more than a few days of gorgeous sunshine.

Not just a city for party lovers, it's brimming with unique culture and history. A must-see is its 11th-century Moorish fortress - known locally as the Alcazaba. Malaga has a beautiful Old Town to explore, too. Admire its elegant squares and pop into the Picasso Museum for an art fix. With high temperatures in February of 18°C, it'll also be warm enough to spend your afternoons sipping wine at one of the city's rooftop bars.

While the beach may not be quite hot enough for sunbathing, the lush hills surrounding the city are perfect for cycling, mountain biking and hiking in the milder spring climate. You can also head inland to wonderful white-washed villages like Frigiliana and Comares for the day for a taste of rural local life.

9. Rome, Italy

People sitting on the steps around the Fontana del Pantheon platform in the centre of Piazza della Rotonda.
  • Average February temperature: 9°C

February is arguably one of the best times of year to visit the Italian capital. Why? Because temperatures are beginning to warm up (it can often reach the mid-teens) and it's wonderfully calm. You'll have much fewer crowds to contend with at major Rome's sites like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Trevi Fountain.

Pleasant day time temperatures means you can very comfortably spend hours getting lost in Rome's gorgeous streets. As well as ticking off landmarks in the centre, it's worth crossing over the river to Trastevere. The local neighbourhood is teeming with lovely dining spots, plus a few markets where you can shop for antiques, gifts and more.

Considering it's just over two hours to Rome by plane, you'll struggle to find many other destinations in Europe within that distance that have a chance of reaching temperatures so high. And let's not forget that you'll be able to enjoy the delights of Italian cuisine...

Where is hot and cheap in February?

There are plenty of places to visit for a more affordable break. You'll find plenty of cheap flights and brilliant hotel deals in Malaga in February (giving you more money to enjoy the city's phenomenal food). Marrakech is also very affordable, with hotels coming in at around £80 per night. Want more personalised inspiration? Check out KAYAK Explore.

Recommendation ranking of cities:

Our recommendation ranking of where to go is calculated based on the presented five factors: average flight prices, average hotel prices, average, high temperatures, average low temperatures, and average precipitation. Flight prices, hotel prices, and precipitation constitute inverse factors, meaning the lower the better. All factors are equally weighted.

From the ranked destination lists, destination exclusions may have been applied in cases of insufficient data or according to the official travel advisory at the time when the data analysis was conducted.

Flight and hotel prices:

Average prices are estimated from KAYAK internal data from the search period ‘01-07-2024’ to ‘15-11-2024’ for the travel period ‘01-01-2025 - 28-02-2025'. Flight prices include economy class return trips for one traveller, and hotel prices represent the nightly rates for a standard double room for hotels with three stars or below. Price insights may vary depending on the exact departure airport and over time as travel dates are approaching.

Weather (monthly average, high and low temperatures, and average precipitation):

Weather data is pulled from a third-party site, Weatherbase, and has not been verified by KAYAK. Monthly average temperature and precipitation data are based on historical insights from the past 102 years. Weatherbase data is updated in real-time from the US Census Bureau and other databases worldwide.
