A woman accused of poisoning a Queensland student in Taiwan has been charged with attempted murder.
Alex Shorey, 24, was on exchange in Taipei last year when he suddenly became critically ill.
It was initially suspected he had accidentally ingested poison at a night market but police in Taiwan now allege he was deliberately poisoned by a woman named Yang, who he had recently befriended.

It is alleged she laced his food and drinks with rat poison between March 24 and May 2 in 2023.
Shorey ended up in hospital multiple times, eventually suffering organ failure.
He was evacuated to Australia last May on an emergency medical flight and was taken to hospital before recovering at home.
More than a year later the woman has been charged with attempted murder.
Police investigating the case discovered the woman's British husband died in January 2023, just months before she met Shorey.
His death is also being investigated.
