The latest data from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has revealed that as of November 2024, 3,690 Nigerians are among the 1,445,549 noncitizens on ICE’s non-detained docket with final orders of removal.
This positions Nigeria among the countries with significant representation in the deportation statistics, though far behind nations like Mexico, which leads with 252,044 individuals.
Other African nations included in the report are Angola with 662 individuals, Benin with 102, and Algeria with 306, reflecting a broader trend of African nationals among those facing deportation orders.
The ICE report highlights challenges in enforcing these orders, particularly due to legal and humanitarian considerations, such as asylum protections and international agreements. The report underscores the complexity of addressing immigration issues while respecting human rights and international protocols.
