The Princess of Wales has shared the news of her remission from cancer following an emotional visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she had previously received treatment.
In a heartfelt social media post, Catherine expressed her sense of “relief” and reaffirmed her commitment to focusing on recovery. She acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to a new normal after a cancer diagnosis, but conveyed optimism for the year ahead, writing, I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.” Her message was signed off with a simple “C.”
This marks the first official confirmation that the princess is in remission. Catherine had previously disclosed her diagnosis in March and announced in September that she had completed chemotherapy. She had since focused on staying cancer-free, stating.
According to Cancer Research UK, “remission” indicates that after treatment, no signs of cancer remain, although some cancers may recur, which is why remission is preferred over the term “cure.”
In her social media message, Catherine extended her gratitude to the Royal Marsden for its exceptional care and support. She also expressed deep thanks to those who have supported her and Prince William throughout this challenging time.
On Tuesday morning, in her most significant solo royal engagement since completing treatment, Catherine met with cancer patients at the Royal Marsden, drawing on her personal experiences.
Now visiting as a guest rather than a patient, the princess reflected on the enduring impact of treatment, noting, “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge.”
Since completing her treatment, Catherine has gradually returned to public duties, including participating in Remembrance Sunday and her Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, both seen as positive milestones in her recovery.
Her visit to the Royal Marsden, which specialises in cancer care, was her first major public engagement of 2025. Catherine has also recently taken on the role of joint royal patron of the hospital, alongside Prince William, who has long been a patron. The late Princess Diana had also served as a royal patron of the Royal Marsden, which treats approximately 59,000 patients annually and has been a specialist cancer hospital since its founding in 1851.
