A father-of-two has been shot outside a home while a young girl slept inside.
The gunman, who remains on the run, fled in a vehicle, crashing into several neighbours’ cars.
A ute can be seen on CCTV flying past a block of units and taking out a light pole, before the gunman inside opens fire.
Kevin Mclean had been visiting a woman’s home on Fahey street in Wonthaggi in Gippsland, south-east of Melbourne, when he was shot in the back.
He was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital and had emergency surgery to remove the bullet fragments.
“He just kind of waddled and was groaning and said this hurts and this hurts,” a neighbour said.
The violence woke neighbours including a 10-year-old girl who was asleep inside the house.
The gunman sped off along with his accomplice riding a motorbike.
As they fled they took out two parked cars.
Tayla, who only bought her Holden Barina two weeks ago, it was “devastating”.
Detectives were still trying to work out what sparked the attack but said it was targeted and the two men knew each other.
