A fire broke out in an eight-story commercial building in Seongnam, South Korea, on Friday, sending thick black smoke into the sky and trapping dozens of people inside.

The blaze, which started in a restaurant on the ground floor, prompted a swift response from the fire department. Authorities deployed 82 vehicles and equipment to control the fire, eventually rescuing about 30 individuals who had been trapped inside.

Twelve people were hospitalised for smoke inhalation, but no fatalities were reported. The building, located south of Seoul, houses several businesses, including a swimming pool where children were taking lessons at the time of the incident.

Footage broadcast by YTN television showed black smoke engulfing much of the building, with initial reports indicating multiple people were trapped. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the situation under control, preventing further escalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities are assessing the extent of the damage to the structure.
