A 17-year-old girl has drowned and a search is under way for a 17-year-old boy who went in to help at a swimming spot in south-east Queensland.
Emergency services were called to Wappa Falls on the Sunshine Coast hinterland at 2.30pm today after the pair didn’t resurface.
Queensland Police Service acting Inspector John Mahoney said the girl got into difficulty and her friend jumped in to help.
“The body of the 17-year-old female has been located a short distance from Wappa Falls, and the 17-year-old boy remains missing,” he said.
The popular spot has signs warning of deep water, currents, slippery rocks and flooding.
