An investigation has been launched after a reports of rape and assault close to Preston city centre.

Police were called shortly after midnight on Wednesday (8 January) to a report that a woman had been raped on Meadow Street.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers at Lancashire Constabulary.

Police have released images of a man captured on CCTV on Meadow Street and asking for the public’s in tracking him down.

A spokesperson for police said: “An investigation is being conducted by a dedicated team of Detectives supported by specialist officers. The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

“As part of our enquiries, we are releasing these images of this man captured on CCTV on Meadow Street, Preston and we are asking for your help to try and find out where he is.

“If you have any information about him or where he could be, please don’t approach him but get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”
